I can’t believe its already been 9 months of living Tennessee. Like all pioneering you expect there to be some trials and challenges but honestly we did not expect the amount of challenging things we have experienced in this move.
We are still full of faith and hope that we will see the fullness of the Lord in our lives and what we moved here to do. Phillip building a construction trade school was one of the primary things we felt God was sending us here for. The open doors we thought we where stepping into ended up closing and we have had to re-direct. The vision is still 100% trade schools and we are believing for the breakthrough that would allow for that to happen. There is famous YWAM story that Loren Cunningham always told us about a time he followed the word of the Lord that lead to him going to Kona and the Lord told him to take a specific flight. When he got to the airport he was told the plane was full with no seats available and could not get on, but he had a word from the Lord that was meant to be on the plane. So he got as close to boarding gate as he possible could and then he leaned forward in faith towards the gate and miraculously he got on that flight. When it comes to building this trade school and the life words that Phillip has, he is getting as close to the “gate” as he can and “leaning in”. For now that means starting a small construction company that provides a place to disciple young men on the job site. We are believing that in the next few months we will have more student employees and a guys discipleship trades house for a live learn environment. With all of this, I have taken on all the administrative side of everything, so I have had to learn a whole new world of a construction business and this on top of all the other things I do. But team work makes the dream work. We are trying to just take the next step in front of us following the leading of the Lord the best we know how.
As you all know from my previous updates the other trial was in February finding out that I had breast cancer. This by far was the hardest blow. Thankfully Tennessee has really good healthcare and I would not have had that in Hawaii. I was able to get a lumpectomy surgery in April to remove the cancer and report back was they where able to surgically remove all the cancer and it had not spread into my lymph nodes. I had to go through radiation after surgery which meant me having a hour and half of driving every day to get treatment, but on July 19th after my last radiation treatment I got to right the bell as being cancer free! We are very thankful for that!
Of course in normal Amy fashion two days after my last treatment I went on a international ministry trip to France and South Africa. Maybe a little crazy, but God gave me grace and it was a good trip.
One of the words we got about moving here was that it would be a powerful season of family, and that has been very true. One of greatest redemptions in this season was becoming grandparents in April with the arrival of our granddaughter Finley. Elijah and Lindy having been living with us and Elijah is working with his dad as they prepare to move as longterm missionary’s to Southeast Asia the beginning of next year. Its been such blessing to have this time with them. In May our oldest, Mekennah (and her dog) also moved in with us as she transitions her life and business from Houston to here. On top of that when I was going through treatment we decided to get another dog, it seemed like a great idea in the moment. He is super cute but full on puppy. A lot of my life when I am home is about taking care of house full of family and dogs.
As you many of you know the weeks leading up to our move to Tennessee we suddenly lost my dad Barton Sollars, and in June we finally got to have his celebration of life on our homestead in Alaska. It was a sweet time with family and remembering my dad.
As we moved here we where also establishing a new YWAM Fire & Fragrance base in Nashville. With getting cancer I was not able to be involved as much in the beginning. Our base leaders Jeff & Rachel Matthis are doing an amazing job leading the base. We have 53 staff now and have been able to partner with Belmont Church as our base of operations. There are universities around our location and we launched a weekly meeting on Monday nights in the historical chapel from the Jesus Movement and we are already averaging about 130 a week. In a few weeks we launch our first DTS with 32 students coming. I am on the executive leadership team but more then anything it means I am “mom” which I love. Spending time discipling staff, speaking in our schools and community meetings, supporting the leadership team and lending my wisdom and experience where needed. Its pretty amazing whats happening in such a short amount of time!
I just got back a couple weeks ago from the Philippines where we gathered as a YWAM global family for the first time in 4 years with over 4500 ywam’ers from over 110 nations. There is nothing like worshiping together with that many nations. It was very significant gathering as it was the first since Loren Cunningham passed away. Darlene Cunningham has been battling health issues and it was a miracle, but she was able to come and speak to the mission several times. It was a powerful family gathering with so much hope, faith and vision for the mission moving toward. Right before that gathering I got to be apart of leading a young YWAM leaders gathering in Manila and the Lord moved in a powerful way.
I am traveling almost every other week for the rest of the year speaking and ministering in several YWAM schools internationally and in the US. We also have a SEND gathering in New Zealand in November that I will be apart of. We are continually hosting different people in our home as at they come to speak in our school.
We just got a notified by our house rental agency that our our rent is increasing quite a bit and we can’t afford that increase, so after only a year we are trying to figure out what we are going to do for housing. We are really believing for a provision miracle of funding to buy some land and for Phillip to build our home as well as a shop/facility for the trade school. If you want to know more about this please reach out so we can share more of the vision. We are also still trying to pay of our debt from the move and starting a business, some of my ministry travel, as well as medical costs from everything as well as much of dental issues that have been happening this year for us. Like I said its been a lot, but we are doing everything we know how to do to be faithful and obedient.
I know this is a long update and if you made this far thanks for reading. We wanted to catch everyone up on our lives right now. Blessings on you all!
