Phillip Ward
Phillip Ward is a man who carries the father’s heart in everything he does. He has a passion to see a generation come into their true identity as sons and daughters of a good and loving God. Since a very young age he had developed practical skills and talents in the construction trades and business that he now uses to disciple young people to become men and women of God with viable skills. Phillip is developing ad running a Missional Construction Trade School Tekton Discipleship and Trades in Columbia, TN. He has a dream to see a wave of skilled missionaries sent nto the inner cities and developing nations. He also is apart of planting trade schools in other nation's and has one in Nigeria. Phillip also loves to preach and teach and is getting many more opportunities to do that all over the world.
Phillip was born and raised Texarkana, Arkansas until he was 18. His parents started a inner city ministry with a focus on young people. His dad started a baseball team for inner city youth which led to their family adopting 3 teenage boys. Living a very missional life in the inner city with very little financial support they would see the miraculous power of God show up in amazing ways with provision. On several occasions seeing God multiply food to feed their family and the children around them for several days. Doing ministry from a very young age along side his dad, Phillip had numerous supernatural encounters with the Holy Spirit that would mark is life forever.
In those day’s doing the kind of ministry his family did was not widely accepted or supported by the church, which brought hurt and pain to his family and eventually led to Phillip walking away from the Lord for a season in his late teens. In that time he became a father to a beautiful picture of grace, his daughter Mekennah. He was married at 17 and by the time he was 21 he had two more children, both sons, Elijah and Bob. Having a family so young forced him to grow up fast and provide through hard work.
At 18 years old he moved to Alaska to be a big game hunting guide in the Chugiak Mountain Rage. Phillip moved his young family out to a remote hunting lodge where they were caretakers for that first winter. From there they moved to Wasilla, Alaska where Phillip would work construction in the hunting off season. The owner of that Construction business was a great Christian man who became a great mentor and spiritual father in his life. Phillip’s own father and this man, are two of the main reasons Phillip is walking in the gifts and calling of God on his life today.
Over the year’s Phillip learned many types of trade skills such as Carpentry, Masonry, Welding, Pipe Fitting and Iron Work. He is also a very skilled artist and his work reflects it. For a season he ended up working on the North Slope of Alaska in the oil fields, working his way up to a Mechanical Superintended, leading over 90 employees and handling large contracts.
The hardest seasons of Philip’s life came when his marriage ended despite his best efforts to restore it. In his own failures and brokenness the Lord continued to show Himself faithful and good.
In 2014 he married Amy Sollars, a long time friend of his family. Amy had joined YWAM Kona in 2008 and was apart of pioneering the Fire & Fragrance school, and and was one of the founders of the movement Circuit Riders. For the first couple of years of their marriage they lived in Southern California where Phillip tried to get his custom furniture business off the ground, while Amy still traveled and ministered. God had different plans and called them to Kona, Hawaii to the largest missions bases in the world and where Amy lived for 5 years from 2008-2013. The invitation to Kona came from the founder’s of YWAM Loren and Darlene Cunningham, and the request was for Phillip to use the skills sets and passionate heart to pioneer a trade school within the mission to train and disciple young people going into short and long term missions. Phillip and Amy lived and served in Kona from 2017-2023.
At the end of the day Phillips just longs to show Jesus to the world through the Fathers heart, be a good father to his own children, and loving husband to wife. He now is a grandfather to two beautiful granddaughters.
